X-Men ’97 Returns for Season 2 – Here’s When You Can Watch New Episodes

X-Men ‘97 is finally returning for a second season exclusively on Disney+. We were massive fans of the first season, with IGN’s resident comics expert Jesse Schedeen calling the animated series “one of the best adaptations of the X-Men franchise ever” in his full review. That first season happened to end on a cliffhanger, so we have quite a few burning questions coming into Season 2.

Thankfully, Marvel has already confirmed the new season’s release schedule with episode titles.

X-Men ’97 Returns for Season 2

Marvel Studios announced the full season’s release schedule and episode titles on Twitter (sorry, X). New episodes of X-Men ’97 will drop at 12am PT/3am ET every Wednesday, starting with a batch of three episodes premiering on July 1. After that, one new episode will be released each week until August 12 for a somewhat funky total of nine episodes in the season.

Here’s all of that info in the form of a bullet list:

X-Men ‘97: Season 2 Episode Release Schedule

Episode 1: “Days of Future Past” – July 1Episode 2: “A Force to Be Reckoned With” – July 1Episode 3: “Rise of Apocalypse – Part 1” – July 1Episode 4: “Rise of Apocalypse – Part 2” – July 8Episode 5: “Weapon X, Lies, and DVDs” – July 15Episode 6: “Danger.exe” – July 22Episode 7: “Strange Land, Savage Heart” – July 29Episode 8: “The Dead Man’s Hand” – August 5Episode 9: “Survival of the Fittest” – August 12

IGN’s Jesse Schedeen got the chance to check out the first couple episodes of Season 2 ahead of their release. Without wading into spoiler territory, he doesn’t hold back his praise for the show, which he claims “continues to be both a love letter to a particular era of the X-Men franchise and a source of deep, enjoyable character drama that can appeal to Marvel fans of all stripes.”

While we’ve had to wait a slightly agonizing two years for a second season, it hasn’t been total radio silence. An X-Men ’97 comic dropped earlier this year, offering a preview Marvel claims ‘bridges the gap’ between the two seasons. Season 2 will see the return of most of the Season 1 cast, while also introducing new characters like Deadpool.

The show’s success has even led to some solid merch, including a new line of Mondo figures and a pretty hardcore Cyclops visor that looks like it came straight out of the show.

The delay between seasons isn’t too surprising given the general wonkiness of streaming release schedules. It hasn’t helped that Studio Mir, the Korean studio behind the series’ animation, has been busy working on hits like My Adventures with Superman and Devil May Cry. That said, X-Men ‘97 has already been greenlit for a third season that one producer is claiming will be released sooner rather than later.

Check out what else there is in the world of superheroes in 2026, including the possible return of the live-action X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday.
