The Marvel Legends series might be primarily known for its action figures, but it has also produced a number of cosplay-ready superhero accessories you can actually wear. The latest is Cyclops’ visor, specifically the one from the animated TV series X-Men ’97. It’s an officially licensed item with built-in LEDs that light up at the press of a button to simulate Cyclops’ optical blast. It’s available for preorder for $99.99 on Amazon, with a release date of July 1.

The visor looks just like it does in the animated series, with its classic yellow design and glowing ruby quartz lens. The visor has “spring-loaded ear pieces” and a swappable nose piece to make it as “one size fits all” as possible.
Press the button on the side of the visor, and the eye screen glows red with an adjustable level of intensity, so you can decide if you want to blast your enemies with a wider or narrower beam. To save battery power, the lights time out after two minutes. The batteries, by the way, are by 2 AAA’s that you’ll have to supply yourself.
When you’re not wearing the visor, you can deck it out with some extra pieces included in the package to set it up for display. You get a colored lens insert with the X logo on it, as well as a red piece that holds the spring-loaded earpieces in. It looks great as a display piece. Which comes as no surprise, seeing as turning superhero designs into physical objects is Marvel Legends’ whole deal.
Previous cosplay/roleplay items from the series include a Doctor Doom helmet, a Wolverine mask, and Hulk fists. They’re not cheap, but they’re well made and they look just like the real thing.
