There have been a lot of different Switch 2 accessories released since the console itself launched last year. You've got controllers, headsets, and even a special type of MicroSD card that serves a specific and useful purpose. But as we approach the first anniversary of the Switch 2, we're finally starting to see more of the good stuff. I'm talking about the type of accessories nobody actually needs, but definitely wants as an upgrade to their gameplay experience.
One such accessory that has been making the rounds online is the Piranha Plant-themed Switch 2 dock. It's the rare instance of a piece of technology being both fully functional and looking incredible. We know from last year's Hori Piranha Plant Switch 2 camera that this can't always be expected of this type of hardware.
Piranha Plant Switch 2 Dock on Sale at Amazon
IGN hasn't had the chance to test this product yet, but based on the specs and the online reviews it seems like it is generally well-received. The PowKong Piranha2 Stand, as its officially called, works just like the standard dock the Switch 2 comes with. It can handle 4K 60Hz display output and includes an active cooling system at the base of the Piranha Plant's head. The one major thing it's missing compared to the out-of-the-box Switch 2 dock is an ethernet port, but that's really only an issue if you rely on a direct wired connection for internet access.
Where this dock really goes above and beyond is the additional features. The arms (or leaves) sticking out the side of the plant work as JoyCon chargers. So if you include the JoyCon connected to the Switch 2 itself, you can be actively charging three pairs of JoyCon at any given time. The leaves also twist and turn a full 360 degrees so you can pose the plant in various different positions to complete the visual effect. As an added bonus, the head of the Piranha plant has the option to light up.
The main downside of this dock is the price tag. Like pretty much all Switch 2 accessories, it doesn't come cheap. The price starts at a whopping $99.99, with an ongoing discount dropping that down to $87.99. In other words, it essentially costs about as much as a new set of Switch 2 JoyCon controllers.
Check Out This Retro Switch 2 Game Keychain
If the price of the Piranha Plant dock is a little too far out of your reach, this little Keychain is a fun and affordable accessory worth checking out. It's shaped like the original Game Boy and can hold up to four Switch game cartridges at once. There's a coupon going on right now that drops the price down to just $13.49.
