Amazon has dropped the price of the Project Hail Mary 4K Blu-ray to a new low price just a few days after its official release date. You can now pick a copy of the film for $24.95.
There are actually two different 4K releases of this movie, but this is the only one available right now. Amazon revealed a limited-edition 4K steelbook back in June, but that version doesn’t come out until October. It’s also completely sold out.
For context, this movie has rarely been listed at full price, even during its preorder window. Unless you’re picking up a limited-edition steelbook, there’s really no reason to pay list price for a 4K movie these days.
In general, the best time to buy Blu-rays at a discount is shortly after they actually release. This is largely because major retailers like Amazon get the majority of their sales during a film’s preorder window, and usually have quite a bit of extra stock leftover once the movie actually releases. That’s certainly the case with Project Hail Mary, and this is the best price we’ve ever seen for it.
If you haven’t already seen the movie, you can currently stream it for free with an Amazon Prime subscription. It’s one of the highest-grossing films of 2026 and an overall fun watch. IGN’s review of the film gave it a solid 8 out of 10, calling it “thrilling, heartfelt, and hilarious” while praising it as a faithful adaptation to Andy Weir’s popular sci-fi novel.
Should You Wait for a Better Deal?
While this is the lowest price we’ve ever seen on this movie, it’s definitely not the lowest price we’ll ever see it drop to. $25 is an overall good deal for a movie that literally just got its home release, but if you don’t feel the need to buy it right now, you can likely wait for it to go lower.
Black Friday is arguably the best time to buy most things and I’d expect to see this particular movie drop down under $15 or less. Last year we saw James Gunn’s new Superman movie drop all the way down to $12.49 during the holidays despite being a new release. With the Project Hail Mary steelbook set to come out in October, there’s plenty of room for additional discounts.
