The 5 Things You Should Buy on Amazon Prime Day

Amazon Prime Day is one of the best times of the year to buy just about anything. It’s one of the only major online events, outside of Black Friday, that has deals pretty much across every category. If there’s something you’re hoping to buy this summer, the Amazon sales event is your best chance to save.

That being said, Prime Day isn’t as big as Black Friday and some products tend to get better discounts than others during this time. So what exactly should you be buying in the middle of July? Although the discounts tend to vary every year, we’ve broken down 5 of the best things to buy during Prime Day 2024.

Amazon Devices and Services

Prime Day is first and foremost an Amazon sale, so it should come as no surprise that some of the best discounts are on the products and services the retailer actually owns. This means that Prime Day is a great time to buy a Kindle, an Echo, or just about any Fire TV device available. You can also usually find some incredible promotions on popular subscriptions like Audible, Kindle Unlimited, and Amazon Music. Amazon already has some of these sales going on and they are definitely worth picking up. I have personally purchased a Kindle, an Echo Dot, a Fire TV stick, and a Kindle Unlimited subscription on previous Prime Days.

Gaming Accessories

Amazon Prime Day is one of the best times to buy video games every year and 2024 is unlikely to break this trend. Alongside the games themselves, Amazon will have top deals on gaming accessories from all of the popular brands. We’ve already seen some of the best deals on PS5 controllers drop ahead of Prime Day and we are expecting more discounts to come. You can also expect some of the best gaming headsets, mice, and keyboards from Razer, Turtle Beach, and Steelseries go on sale during Amazon’s sale. We also expect big discounts on SSDs to arrive during the 2-day event as it is arguably the best time to buy an SSD for cheap.

Monitors and TVS

Prime Day is without a doubt one of the best times to buy a new TV every year outside of Black Friday. While some of the best discounts are going to be on Amazon’s own Fire TVs, you can usually find a good deal on popular LG, Samsung, and Sony TVs during the sale. Alongside those sales, you’ll also find some of the best prices on gaming monitors any time outside of Black Friday. Gaming monitors especially tend to get heavily discounted as Amazon and direct retailers like Dell and HP compete for your business. If you’re looking to buy either a new monitor or TV for your gaming setup, Prime Day is an excellent time to do so.

Physical Media

In an age where everything is going digital, physical media has been on an upswing. Despite stores like Best Buy and Target abandoning physical media, online retailers like Amazon still have a large stockpile of video games, movies, books, and manga that is ripe for the picking. Not only that, these items always go on sale during any sort of deals event, and Prime Day has already been a good time for discounts. Amazon has so far offered a great buy 2 get 1 free sale on books, games, movies, and more and is sure to bring more to the table during the actual Prime Day sale. Keep an eye out for discounts on popular Blu-ray sets, Nintendo Switch games, and book sets as the Amazon deals roll in over the next few days.

LEGO Sets

If you’re a collector of LEGO bricks then you likely already know the struggle. LEGO sets are really pricey, and some of the most expensive sets can cost as much as a new phone. Prime Day is thankfully one of the best times of the year to buy LEGO sets. Whether you’re looking to pick up some additional bricks for your kid or finally purchase that Star Wars set you’ve been dreaming of, there are always good deals on Amazon Prime Day. We’ve already seen some new deals on Mario LEGO sets and even Pokemon Mega sets ahead of the sale, so the deals are off to a good start before they even begin.

Should You Shop Prime Day Deals or Wait for Black Friday?

It can be hard to decide when the right time to buy anything is when there are always upcoming sales looming on the horizon. Although Black Friday is generally better than Prime Day in terms of the overall scale of discounts, it doesn’t always have the best deals for everything. If you’re hoping to find the very best time to buy a new iPhone for example, you’d be better off waiting for Black Friday, but if a gaming monitor drops to its lowest ever price, there’s really no reason to wait.

One expert Prime Day trick to ensure you make a good purchasing decision is to check CamelCamelCamel for historical Amazon price data. The website tracks and records prices throughout the year, so if something that is currently on sale is on par or at a lower price than it has been previously, you can be sure you’re making a good decision by buying now rather than later.
