Stranger Things: Tales From '85 and McDonald's are teaming up for a Happy Meal that will not only get you a collectible toy, a Stranger Things activity book, and some delicious food, but also a QR code that lets you save Hawkins and McDonald's from the Upside Down.

This collaboration will kick off in the U.S. on May 5 and will roll out across Singapore, Norway, Australia, Germany, Portugal, Italy, India, and Korea in the weeks to come, and it really does seem to be putting the focus on a Stranger Things story this time around.

You can check out the teaser above that shows some of our favorite characters – Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max, and newcomer Nikki – deciding what to get at McDonald's before they are brought into the Upside Down and forced to face off against terrifying monsters. In a fun moment, Eleven even uses her power to launch a Happy Meal at an enemy.

As for the QR code, when guests scan it, they will unlock a digital experience and interactive game where they can help save Hawkins and McDonald's from these threats alongside the new group created by the gang called the Hawkins Investigators Club. And yes, these story beats will feature the same animation as seen in the show.

Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85 Happy Meals include:

  • A custom Stranger Things: Tales From ‘85-inspired Happy Meal box
  • One of 12 (depending on market) collectible character toys
  • A Stranger Things activity book
  • A QR code that unlocks a digital experience and interactive game where fans help save Hawkins (and McDonald’s) from the monsters

Speaking of the show, Stranger Things: Tales From '85 will be released on Netflix today, April 23, and you can read our review and explainer of the ending, as well as check out our chat with the showrunner on how this animated spin-off set between Seasons 2 and 3 of the main series will "respect the canon" of the original story.
