Spider-Man Leak Confirms Sadie Sink Character, Fans Say

A leaked image apparently from the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day shows Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink in costume for the first time — and fans say the picture all but confirms who she's playing.

First, some caveats. The image has, of course, not been released officially by Marvel — though we've seen leaks of this kind before (the photos showing Andrew Garfield on set for No Way Home spring to mind). The image also shows a Gemini logo in one corner, though this is believed to be because the original low-quality image has been upscaled.

Among fans, however, there seems no doubt the image is legitimate. Noted Marvel insider AlexfromCC has claimed the image is real and noted that it fits a description of the character's costume he has previously been sharing for some time. The image also fits with several split-second glimpses of a character that's almost certainly Sadie Sink, seen in the Spider-Man: Brand New Day trailer. There, we see someone in a large dark green coat and lighter hood from behind at one point, and also someone in a dark green coat strapped into a chair.

And then there are the photos from public filming last year, where Sadie Sink was spotted in the same green coat and yellow hoodie. Of course, the colors are also reminiscent of Jean Grey's classic green and yellow X-Men suits, worn in numerous comic book runs.

There has been growing certainty over Sink playing the iconic X-Men character Jean Grey in recent weeks, with numerous other Marvel insiders all now rounding on her playing the character, rather than some of the other, earlier candidates. It's been clear for some time, though, that Sink was not playing just another regular Spider-Man villain (of which Brand New Day has half a dozen already).

Last year, it was reported that Sink will be back in 2027's climactic Multiverse Saga finale Avengers: Secret Wars, something that seemingly sets her up for a far bigger MCU role. Of course, Marvel is currently prepping its big X-Men reboot, which is being helmed by Thunderbolts/The New Avengers director Jake Schreier. Introducing Jean Grey now would allow Marvel to gently introduce audiences to the idea of a fresh generation of X-Men, before fans get to say farewell to various legacy characters who are returning for Avengers: Doomsday.

Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last year, Sink discussed the huge amount of secrecy over her role and described not being able to say who she's playing as "torture." That torture will likely continue until Marvel officially reveal her character — or leave it as a surprise all the way until Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives in theaters on July 31, 2026.
