Sony Pictures Chief Issues Message to Cinema Operators

The boss of Sony Pictures has told cinema operators to cut back on trailers shown before the movie begins.

As reported by Variety, Tom Rothman, Chairman and CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s Motion Picture Group, told the audience at CinemaCon 2026 to “get off the ad crack.”

“Get rid of the endless advertising and substantially shorten the long pre-shows,” Rothman said, before insisting cinemagoers “don’t even see the trailers” because they plan to arrive half an hour late hoping to skip all the faff.

Sony Pictures held their showcase at CinemaCon 2026 overnight, and you can check out everything revealed here. Upcoming Sony Pictures movies include Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, and The Legend of Zelda. It’s also working on a live-action Helldivers movie starring Jason Momoa.
