Score a Tiny 4TB Samsung USB 3.2 Portable SSD for Only $199 (or 8TB for $399)

If you need fast, super portable, and high-capacity storage for your laptop or PC, then here’s a new deal that I haven’t seen since Black Friday. Samsung is currently offering the Samsung T5 Evo USB 3.2 External Solid State Drive at the lowest prices of the year. The 4TB model is down to $197.99 and the 8TB model is down to $399.99. This is a manufacturer discount, so it’s also available at other retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Newegg. The benefit of getting it from Samsung direct is that you also get a bonus Samsung Pro Ultimate 128GB SDXC card with your purchase.

Samsung T5 Evo USB 3.2 Portable Solid State Drive

The Samsung T5 Evo is a slim, stylish enclosure that houses a (non-shuckable) 4TB or 8TB M.2 solid state drive. It boasts transfer speeds of up to 460MB/s over USB Gen 3.2 Gen1. That isn’t the fastest portable SSD on the market by any means, but still far faster than any convention portable hard drive. In terms of protection, the rubber housing cushions the drive from drops of up to 6ft and there’s 256 bit AES hardware encryption for internal security.

The main draw of the T5 Evo, however, is its diminutive size. It is much smaller than even other portable solid state drives, measuring in at 3.7×1.6×0.7″ and weighing only 3.6g. This drive was launched at the tail end of last year at a much higher price point: The 4TB, for example, was close to $400. Finding a similarly sized 4TB drive for under $200 is a rare find, especially from a popular brand like Samsung. Getting an 8TB drive for under $400 is even more uncommon, especially since most external SSDs aren’t even available in this size in the first place.
