In his Pulse Elite review back in 2024, IGN’s Jaron Schneider gave the headset a solid 9/10 rating, mainly because of the great sound quality from the planar magnetic drivers. Sony states that planar magnetic technology “reproduces sound with near-perfect accuracy along the entire audible spectrum, so you can hear games exactly how the developers intended.” The Pulse Elite’s other features include PlayStation Link technology, which allows it to connect seamlessly with your PS5 console, multi-point connectivity (use Bluetooth and PS Link to connect to two sources simultaneously), retractable microphone with AI-enhanced noise rejection, on-button controls, and a 30 hour battery life.

Jaron Schneider also reviewed the Pulse Explore gaming earbuds and gave it high marks as a gaming earbud, but docked some points for leaving out features that are found in other non-gaming earbuds, like ANC and transparency mode. But that’s the point. These earbuds are designed from the ground up for gaming. The planar magnetic drivers require a lot of space, so these earbuds are bigger than your typical ones and there’s not much space left for any extraneous fatures. That’s the tradeoff for big sound. The Pulse Explore also supports 3D audio so you’ll be able to pinpoint the location of your enemies and PlayStation Link compatibility. A USB dongle is included so that you can use it on a PC.
