Polls Show Only Around 10-15 Percent Plan to Buy PS5 Pro, Most Consider It Too Expensive

The PS5 Pro's touted upgrades don't appear to be enough to sway fans to purchase Sony's new console, with most saying that the upgrade is too expensive. In various polls of IGNs readers across several platforms, only around 10 to 15 percent of respondents said they were planning to purchase the newly-announced console.

Revealed early on Tuesday, Sony said that the PS5 Pro offers a 45 percent increase in rendering speed among other improvements. However, most fans focused on the premium's console price, which represents a 40 to 50 percent premium on the PS5 Slim.

The polls corroborate the sentiment on social media. In a separate poll asking if PS5 was reasonably priced, some 74 percent of readers out of a sample of 34,000 respondents said that the console is "way too expensive" at $700. That's compared to just 5 percent saying it "sounds about right," and around 18.5 percent saying "it's a little too expensive."

While these are not scientific polls, they do suggest that Sony has some work to do in convincing PlayStation fans to spend the extra cash on a more powerful console. For the most part, though, Sony has shrugged off concerns about the price point around its consoles, even going so far as to increase prices in many regions.

In the meantime, Sony has little choice but to power ahead with the PS5 Pro, with pre-orders set to go live on September 26. Here at IGN, we've broken down the new console's specs and listed every game that has been enhanced for the platform. Stay tuned because there's lot more analysis to come before it launches on November 7.

In the meantime, check out our review of Astro Bot, which released to rave reviews last week and should run just fine on a launch PS5.
