LEGO has announced its long-expected line-up of Pokémon sets that take advantage of its new Smart Play technology, with a dozen designs featuring Mewtwo, Charizard, Pikachu and more.
All 12 sets are available to pre-order now ahead of their launch on August 1. Every set is Smart Play-enabled, though you’ll need one of the two core ‘All-in-One’ sets with Smart Bricks included to access the technology yourself.
In general, the range is focused on buildable models of Pokémon species that can be used as toys themselves — rather than being intricate dioramas you place on a shelf, or anything scaled to Minifigure size. Interactivity will let you hear Pikachu burble with happiness as he eats a sandwich, or Charizard laugh as you tickle him — powered by the Smart Brick, which detects movement and color and emits light and sounds.
Prices range from $19.99 for a couple of the smaller sets, up to $120 for the 751-piece Charizard vs. Jolteon Ultimate Battle set, which features two Smart Bricks.
To celebrate the launch, LEGO stores in the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Poland and Australia will become PokéStops locations within Pokémon Go this August, where creatures with unique LEGO backgrounds can be encountered. In-game stickers and avatar items can also be unlocked.
Spending more than $130 on the range will unlock the LEGO Pokémon Smart Play: Ditto as Squirtle: Movie Night set, while stocks last. Details of the full range lie below:
