We Live in Time, the upcoming romantic comedy starring Hollywood superstars Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield, has become the subject of the latest internet meme thanks to a funky horse.
The film is perhaps getting more eyes than ever before thanks to an image of its three leads: Pugh (Midsommar, Black Widow, Oppenheimer), Garfield (Spider-Man, Spider-Man, Spider-Man), and a model horse that’s conspicuously present in a recent promotional image.

Horses are already the punchline of a joke, but what's made this particular merry go round beastie so hilarious to the internet is that it appears to feature during the pivotal moment of Pugh and Garfield’s characters reveling in their feelings for each other
It appears the emotional high-point of their relationship, and perhaps the film, is being intruded on by a horse who looks like it’s partying in Ibiza at 2am.

The meme likely won't last longer than a few days (as has been the case before) but it's notable for a few reasons, and definitely so for the producers at film company A24.
The meme increases the awareness of the film, especially among audiences that might not have thought about seeing it before. Fans of the meme can attend a screening just to lean into their date’s ear at the right moment and whisper: “That’s the horse.” For them, it’s a win either way.

We live in a post-Morbius world, though, where the "correct" way to enjoy a film won't necessarily be the way fans choose to enjoy it. Filmgoers, or communities formed around any entertainment, can find an identity in opposition as much as they can in acceptance.
Pockets of fun can be found outside of the intended reading, and for many, We Live in Time will no longer be the deep romantic comedy starring two Hollywood stars who are seeking to tell an incredibly compelling story, it's the horse movie.
