Grand Theft Auto 6 'Plays Best on PS5,' Sony Boasts — Here's Why

Grand Theft Auto 6 will "play best on PS5" as it makes use of various immersive console features, Sony has said, boasting of its "close partnership" with Rockstar Games.

In a post on the PlayStation blog, Sony highlighted how GTA 6 will take advantage of the PS5 DualSense controller's haptic feedback and integrated speaker.

Exactly how much this will differ from the vibrations also available on the Xbox Series X/S controller remains to be seen, though anyone playing on Microsoft's machine will apparently miss out on "sound effects from the controller" that will emerge at various points.

Sony also highlighted its Tempest 3D AudioTech, that will allow you to "surround yourself in the distinct soundscapes of Leonida" through its "highly accurate audio positioning." The game will also "leverage the PS5's ultra-high speed SSD" to experience GTA 6 "with near-instant load times." Again, how this will differ from the Xbox version remains unclear.

What is clear is that Sony's marketing machine is clearly synced up with Rockstar's — and, notably, there's no similar blog post yet to emerge on the Xbox Wire.

As Sony itself goes on to note, the launch of GTA 5 is your best reason yet to buy a PS5 (this side of the console's price rises), as there is no PS4 version of the game. It's a similar message to the one Sony recently began sending its own customers — warning them that they won't be able to play GTA 6 on older hardware, and that it really now is time to upgrade. Rockstar also recently eased the console transition itself, by promising free upgrades to GTA 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S for those with a PS4 or Xbox One copy.
