San Diego Comic-Con 2024 officially kicks off today, and eagle-eyed fans are already spotting hidden announcements appearing at the convention. One video game fan in particular noticed branding for what looks like an unannounced remaster of Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 and 2.

Over on ResetEra, user Mama Robotnik posted pictures from the SDCC show floor showing statues based on the Legacy of Kain series. Alongside the statue is a sign with the branding "Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver I & II Remastered." However, Crystal Dynamics has not officially confirmed an official remaster for either of these games. IGN has reached out to Crystal Dynamics for comment.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver was first released in 1999 for the PS1 and PC, while its direct sequel, Soul Reaver 2, was released in 20001 for PS2 and PC. Both games are part of the dark fantasy action RPG series, though the franchise has remained dormant for decades. The last entry, Legacy of Kain: Defiance, was released in 2003 for PS2, PC, and the original Xbox.

Though the series was neglected for years, hopes for the franchise's return surfaced in October 2022 when Crystal Dynamics published a survey asking fans if they would like to see a new game from the Legacy of Kain series. A few months after the survey was released, Crystal Dynamics owner's Embracer group revealed that it received 100,000 responses, hinting that a new game could be in development.

Last month, Crystal Dynamics and Bit Bot Media announced that it was publishing a new prequel novel titled Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver—The Dead Shall Rise. However, a release date for the graphic novel has yet to be revealed.

In our review of the original Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, IGN wrote: "Legacy of Kain takes everything that makes the horror genre compelling and improves on it in nearly every way. Ending aside (what's wrong with a cliff-hanger now and then?), Kain is easily my favorite Dreamcast game so far, and is a great choice for your growing collection."
