Deadpool & Wolverine and longtime X-Men star Hugh Jackman wearing the classic Wolverine suit on set for the first time had grown men “sobbing.”
Speaking to HeyUGuys, executive producer Wendy Jacobson said the film crew knew they’d created something special by seeing Jackman — set to appear in his 10th movie as Wolverine — wear the classic, bright and colorful suit from the X-Men comics and animated series for the first time.
“It was one of the craziest things,” Jacobson said. “It was the camera test. It was before we started shooting. To see both of those guys, first of all, in costume together was just mind-blowing, but Hugh walking out in the yellow and blue, I mean, there were grown men, like, sobbing on set. So we knew it was a special, very special thing.”
Jackman’s prior representations of Wolverine have all fallen into the darker, grittier, and more realistic realm, but it seems the signature silliness of Deadpool will return some color to the X-Man too.
Deadpool & Wolverine, which unsurprisingly stars Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool alongside Jackman’s Wolverine, is also both characters’ official introductions to the MCU. Indeed it’s the only MCU film of 2024. It’s set to star way more than those two though, with characters such as Lady Deadpool, Sabertooth, Juggernaut, and many more.
IGN has seen the first 35 minutes of the film ahead of its July 26, 2024 release date, and said it left us with “genuine hope for the future of Marvel” thanks to it being “funny, crass, and violent” with “a weightier sense of purpose” underneath the gags.
