Capcom Is Finally Bringing Back Onimusha – The Game Awards 2024

Onimusha is officially back. Capcom announced that the classic action series, which last received a proper sequel on the PlayStation 2, is getting a new entry on modern consoles.

The first trailer was shown during The Game Awards 2024, revealing a dark fantasy action game that bears a resemblance to popular Soulslike games. It's being developed for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam and is set to release in 2026.

"A lone samurai steps forth—his blade sharpened, soul anew. The Onimusha series by Capcom reawakens with Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a brand new title coming in 2026," the official description reads.

The original Onimusha: Warlords was released in 2001 and received a remaster in 2019. We wrote in our original review, "Onimusha is a very good game that controls nicely and has some of the coolest looking effects in any PS2 game to date. The gameplay is some of Capcom's finest yet, and the story, while a little weak in the end, keeps players riveted throughout."

In addition to Onimusha, The Game Awards also featured first looks at Witcher 4, a new Elden Ring spin-off, and more. You can read our list of everything announced right here as well as our complete list of winners.
