Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for Switch 2 Is Up for Preorder

Here’s something I never thought I’d say: the upcoming Call of Duty game is now available to preorder for a Nintendo console. Granted, Microsoft said it would do this, but hearing it and seeing it are two different things. The game in question is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and the Nintendo platform is the Switch 2. You can preorder it now at Best Buy. It costs $69.99 and is out on October 23.

Digital

Get it at Nintendo eShop – $69.99

However, it’s definitely worth noting that physical copies of the game do not come on a game card. It’s not even a Game-Key Card. This is just a code in a box. So you’ll have the box to put on your shelf, but you’ll still have to redeem the game code on the Nintendo eShop and download the game to your Switch 2.

Before you grab your pitchfork and torching every building in your neighborhood, it should be noted that there’s no way Modern Warfare 4 would fit on a Switch 2 game card. Currently, these carts can hold up to 64GB of storage. Call of Duty games are notorious for taking up well over 100GB of storage, depending on what modes you have installed. There’s a whole Call of Duty game launcher app that lets you pick and choose what parts you want downloaded on your system.

Preorder Bonuses

Preorder the game, and you’ll receive the following in-game items:

Hunter Killer Operator SkinGilded Pearl Camo Pack (2 weapon camos)

Preorder the digital edition, and you’ll get the items listed above, plus early access to the campaign, starting October 16.

What Is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4?

The Switch 2 version of Modern Warfare 4 includes the full game that you’d get on PS5 or Xbox Series X. It has the Korea-based campaign and the multiplayer modes — including the extraction-focused DMZ mode — though it’s worth noting that you’ll need a Nintendo Online subscription to play online.

Per Activision’s official website, here’s the description for the campaign: “War erupts on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion that threatens to destabilize the world. A young squad of South Korean soldiers fight to survive on the collapsing front lines, while half a world away a vengeful Captain Price wages a personal war from the shadows as he stays one step ahead of those hunting him.”

This is the first Call of Duty game to release on a Nintendo platform since Call of Duty: Ghosts landed on Wii U in 2013. In related news, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta will be free on Switch 2 this weekend. Playing can earn you some Beta rewards, including things like emblems and skins.
