Although I have years experience searching for the best deals on Prime Day, it’s very rare that I actually buy anything. These massive sales always have some very tempting discounts, but I always seem to find a way to convince myself I don’t really need any of it. That being said, the Google Pixel deals at Amazon right now were good enough to convince me it was finally time for a new phone.
I have been using my Samsung Galaxy S10 for a really long time and never really saw a reason to upgrade beyond that. Sure, it’s a little bit slower to open apps and sometimes I sound like a robot on phone calls, but those didn’t seem like good enough reasons to drop a ton of money on a new smartphone when other expenses felt more important. But with the Google Pixel 8 priced at just $499 right now, it felt like the right time to upgrade.
Google Pixel 8 – $499
The Google Pixel 8 is the model I purchased for myself. It is currently listed at its lowest price ever and you are unlikely to find a better deal than this on Google’s latest phone. It has 24 hour battery life, a great camera, and comes packing the new Google Tensor G3 chip. This is the most current flagship phone from Google and it costs so much less than an iPhone 15 at this price. IGN also had our phone expert Mark Knapp take a look at the phone and had overall positive things to say in our review:
What We Said In Our Review
“The Pixel 8 is going to be a great pick for a lot of people. It hasn’t changed much compared to the Pixel 7, but what it has changed is respectable. It’s faster, smarter, and has that much better hardware for creating and enjoying media. It’s a shame Google raised the price, but if it can actually deliver seven years of updates, it may even out. Ultimately, it’s a well-balanced phone that provides a level of simplicity that can make Android more approachable, even if it means sacrificing some of the performance and versatility you could get from other phones like the Galaxy S23.”
Although the standard Google Pixel 8 is the phone that I bought, it’s worth noting that the Google Pixel 8 Pro actually has an even better discount. I would have chosen to upgrade to this, but it was just a little out of my price range still. We also reviewed the Pixel 8 Pro and liked it just as much as the Pixel 8. If you want one of the best Android phones on the market, you should go with this deal instead.
Google Pixel 8 Pro – $699
The main differences between these phones is that the Pro version has the telephoto camera and Pro camera controls that make it a better overall choice for photographers. It’s also just generally more powerful and is one of the cheapest high-end smartphones you can buy in 2024.
Should You Wait for the Pixel 9 Instead?
It is worth noting that these discounts are likely happening right now because Google is about to release a new line of phones. You can expect to see the Google Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro at the next Made By Google event, which is happening on August 13 this year. We don’t yet know all of the details about Google’s next phones, but we know they will be upgraded versions of the Pixel 8. If you want to wait to see what type of features will be available with the next gen phones, you won’t have to wait long.
