Live-Action Lilo & Stitch Movie Gets May 2025 Release Date

We officially have a date for Disney’s next live-action remake, with Lilo & Stitch set to hit theaters on May 23, 2025.

Previously, Disney said that the live-action Lilo & Stitch would release in Summer 2025 during this year’s big D23 presentation. That same presentation also gave us a first glimpse at what CGI Stitch will look like in the film, which you can also see below:

Disney also revealed that Freakier Friday, its long-awaited Freaky Friday sequel that will reunite Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, will hit theaters on August 8, 2025.

Both Lilo & Stitch and Freaky Friday join what’s continued to become a packed summer for movies. Though they’re definitely targeting different audiences, Lilo & Stitch opens on the same weekend as Mission: Impossible 8, and May 2025 will also see the releases of Marvel’s Thunderbolts* (May 2) and the new Karate Kid film.

John Wick spinoff Ballerina, Pixar’s Elio, the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, Superman, Jurassic World Rebirth, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and more will all follow in subsequent couple of months.

Newcomer Maia Kealoha will be playing Lilo in the live-action Lilo & Stitch while Chris Sanders, who co-wrote and directed the original, will return to voice Stitch. Marcel the Shell With Shoes On’s Dean Fleischer Camp will direct. Disney hasn’t revealed too much about the plot, but it’s very likely it’ll cover the same beats as the 2002 animated original, which followed the young Lilo as she adopts Experiment 626, or Stitch, forming a close bond with the alien that was once supposed to be a weapon of chaos and destruction.
