As part of its Black Friday in July Sale, Dell is offering the new 2024 Alienware m16 R2 Gaming Laptop at the best price we've seen all year. The RTX 4060 model is currently $1169.99 and the RTX 4070 model is $1349.99, both after a 10% off coupon code "SAVE10". The 2nd gen m16 was announced during CES 2024; it's lighter and more compact than its predecessor without compromising on its gaming performance.
Alienware m16 R2 Gaming Laptops from $1169.99
The Alienware m16 R2 is lighter and slimmer than the previous generation m16 R1. The hump behind the display is no longer there, resulting in a 14% reduction in both dimensions and weight. Additionally, the m16 R2 is now equipped with a low voltage Intel Meteor Lake CPUs for less power draw and thus less heat and longer battery life. For those of you who didn't like the very noticable RGB bling of the original m16 R1, you can now switch to a more subtle white LED backlighting with a press of a button.
The RTX 4060 model features a 16" 2560×1600 QHD+ display, Intel Core Ultra 9 185H processor, 16GB of DDR5-5600MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The Intel Core Ultra 9 185H is a current-gen Meteor Lake CPU with a max turbo frequency of 5.1GHz with 16 cores, 22 threads, and a 24MB cache. The RTX 4070 model is equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 7 155H processor with a max turbo frequency of 4.8GHz, but the core, thread, and cache count are identical. It also has 32GB of RAM, double that of the RTX 4060 model. Fortunately, despite the reduction in size and weight, the GPUs have nearly the same TGP rating as the m16 R1, which means gaming performance will be uncompromised.
My recommendation would be to go with the RTX 4070 model. Both models have a pretty high resolution 2560×1600 display. Although the RTX 4060 should be able to handle games at that resolution, the RTX 4070 will give you more breathing room. Furthermore, the difference between an Intel Core Ultra 7 and 9 is minimal for games, and you'd probably benefit a lot more from the extra RAM.
