Spider-Man: Brand New Day Beats GTA 6 Record After Trailer Pulls 718 Million Views in 24 Hours

Sony Pictures has declared the first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day is the “biggest trailer in history” after it beat the previous 24-hour record held by Grand Theft Auto 6.

The company announced that, according to data tracking company WaveMetrix, the long-awaited debut video for the next Tom Holland Spider-Man movie pulled in a staggering 718.6 million views in its first day. That’s nearly 250 million more views than the second trailer for Rockstar Games’ yet-to-be-released GTA 6, which generated 455 million views when it premiered last May.

It was clear Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) fans were already looking forward to Brand New Day before its first trailer, but its first few hours cemented that interest even more. Just eight hours after it was published, the video attracted 373 million views globally.

For comparison, Deadpool & Wolverine had a 24-hour record of 365 million upon the premiere of its Super Bowl trailer in 2024. The official trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which featured Holland’s previous performance as Peter Parker in 2021, pulled 355.5 million views in its first day.

Brand New Day has now presented a towering new number to beat, and it’s easy to see why. The nearly three-minute trailer gives audiences a sneak peek at Holland’s return for the first time in five years, with the footage teasing a continuation that picks up after the mind-wipe cliffhanger from the end of No Way Home. In typical Marvel fashion, the video packs in plenty of cameos, too, including Jon Bernthal as The Punisher in his first MCU movie, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner, and the unexpected return of Michael Mando as Scorpion.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has a release date of July 31, 2026. For more, you can read up on who we think Stranger Things star Sadie Sink is playing and more of our biggest post-trailer questions. You can also check out the latest on Sony’s plans to breathe life into its side of the Spider-Verse.
