Sony’s Until Dawn Film Has Already Wrapped Filming

The Until Dawn film from Sony Pictures, based on the beloved PlayStation 4 (and now PS5) horror game, has already wrapped filming.

Director David F Sandberg announced in an Instagram post, below, that filming wrapped on October 4. No release date for the film has been announced by Sony as of yet but production certainly appears to be moving quickly.

“That’s a wrap on Until Dawn,” Sandberg said in the post, which also included a horrendous photo of a clapperboard against a mirror covered in dried blood.

The Until Dawn film was announced in January as an adaptation of the 2015 horror game of the same name from Supermassive Games. Peter Starmore, who played a creepy psychiatrist in the game, will reprise his role in the film, and other cast members include Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, and Odessa A’zion.

Until Dawn is essentially a choose your own adventure horror game, built on the premise that all eight of the terrified teens can die or survive depending on the player’s decision. It’s unclear how this will translate to a film with a stationary story, or if it will include the story changes applied to the PS5 and PC version of Until Dawn released last week.

Sony is seemingly doubling down on the franchise after years of it lying dormant. Supermassive Games switched focus to the Dark Pictures Anthology games following the release of Until Dawn prequel The Inpatient in 2018, and in 2022 released spiritual sequel The Quarry, which was another full scale teen horror.

But Until Dawn itself didn’t make a comeback until this year, when Sony Pictures announced the film adaptation and later the remake. The Until Dawn remake features not just a remade opening but new ending scenes, with one in particular teasing Until Dawn 2.
