Publisher Abrams ComicArts already has a strong pedigree when it comes to original graphic novels, but now they're branching out into English language manga releases via a new imprint called Kana. Their latest release is Scars Volume 1, a touching coming-of-age story from newcomer Brandon Arias.
With Scars Volume 1 available in stores now, IGN can exclusively debut a new preview of this manga graphic novel. Check it out in the slideshow gallery below:
Here's Kana's official description of the new book:
A stunning and heartfelt manga trilogy from debut author-illustrator Brandon Arias, Scars deftly tackles childhood trauma, bullying, and identity. Scars Volume 1 centers around two high schoolers, Kyonosuke and Akira, who live in a little village by the Japanese countryside. After an accident leaves Kyonosuke with a permanent scar on his face, he becomes the frequent target of harsh bullying.
Akira, his classmate, is trying to come to terms with her gender dysphoria but is beaten by her father for saying she wants to be a girl. When the two troubled teens meet and fall in love, they decide to escape their toxic environment together. But are they strong enough to accept each other, and themselves, for who they are?
Scars is available in comic shops and bookstores now. You can order a copy on Amazon.
