Rick and Morty Season 9 Release Date Set for May With First-Look Images

Rick and Morty is warping in for Season 9 with a premiere date of May 24, 2026.

Adult Swim announced its long-running sci-fi comedy show will officially return with a new batch of episodes starting this summer. The update comes with a reminder that the series continues to rake in viewers, promising to premiere in more than 170 countries in 42 languages at 11 p.m. ET/PT. New episodes will be available to purchase digitally the day following their premiere, with a United States streaming date set for August 31.

“I know it’s my job to say that this show just keeps topping itself, but it also has the benefit of being true,” Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen said of Rick and Morty Season 9. “It’s kind of scary what this show unit is doing season over season—just pouring an absurd amount of talent and brilliance into these episodes. From the first frame, you’re going to see great high‑concept insanity with some of the best character writing ever done. Again, it’s my job to say that, but it’s also true.”

Rick and Morty originally premiered in 2013 and took infamously long breaks between seasons throughout the 2010s. That mostly changed with the launch of Season 5 in 2021, with Rick, Morty, Summer, Beth, and Jerry returning for more multiversal shenanigans with new batches of episodes arriving at a quicker pace since.

That brings us to Season 9 this year. Although its episode count hasn’t been confirmed quite yet, past seasons typically run for 10 episodes before coming to an end. You can see a collection of first-look images from new episodes of Rick and Morty below.

“Rick and Morty is back, baby!” an official description says. “Season Nine is all certified bangers. No AI slop! Just Grade A organic slop, made by real humans with real human traits like back hair and cysts. Please watch, or we’ll have neglected our families for nothing.”

While we wait for more updates from Adult Swim, you can read about why we gave Rick and Morty Season 8 a 7/10. You can also learn about the recently announced President Curtis spinoff show starring Keith David.
