PS5 Slim Consoles Are on Sale Today, and It’s Totally Worth Picking One Up

Amazon’s October Prime Day event is now live, offering 48 hours of discounts on video games, tech, and more, but one of the best PlayStation deals of the event has already been live for a few days. You can get up to $50 off the PS5 Slim today, bringing the price down to just $449 for the disc version, or $399 for the digital. The deal is also now available at Walmart, Best Buy, and Target for $449 just in case Amazon runs out of stock during the Prime Day sales.

If you’re awaiting the restock on the PS5 Digital Slim 30th Anniversary bundle (which includes all the same goodies as the Pro bundle), it’ll be up at retailers like Amazon and Walmart this week. In fact, Walmart+ paid members will get early access to preorders, on Thursday, October 10, at 10 AM ET / 7 AM PT. Otherwise, keep following @IGNDeals on Twitter/X for more updates.

When comparing this deal to last year’s $500 Black Friday bundle, which included games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 or Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, you’re still getting a mighty fine deal. At $449 – or $399 for the Digital Edition – you get similar savings while having more flexibility in choosing your game library. We’ve collected many more excellent PlayStation offerings as well for Prime Day, so be sure to check out our top deal picks.

This is, of course, assuming you’re not holding out for the upcoming restock of the PS5 Slim (Digital) 30th Anniversary Edition, set to launch on October 10. Retailers like Amazon, Best Buy, and Walmart will have stock available for preorder at $449, giving you more options if you prefer the anniversary model. Keep in mind, the PS5 Pro 30th Anniversary Edition sold out almost immediately last week and started popping up on eBay at inflated prices.

What We Said in Our Review – PlayStation 5

Jada Griffin’s IGN review said: “The slimmed-down PlayStation 5 maintains all of its strengths. Extremely fast loading times and a best-in-class controller make it a pleasure to use.”

“Features like blisteringly quick loading times for native PS5 games and a well-considered UI continue to make Sony’s console a pleasure to use. The new Slim model takes less space in your entertainment console while offering internal storage on par with the Xbox Series X, and it’s easily upgradable too. The DualSense controller continues to deliver phenomenal experiences when games are designed around it, and peripherals like the PSVR2 and PS Portal, while optional, offer additional ways to take advantage of the power of the PS5.”

Sony also recently launched the stunning new “Chroma” colorways for PS5 DualSense controllers, which are all now up for preorder. These controllers are designed to complement the PlayStation 5 Slim and its matching cover plates, but they’re sure to stand out on their own. Available in Pearl, Indigo, and Teal, each DualSense features a pearlescent finish that shifts color depending on the angle.

Is It Better to Buy a New Console on Prime Day or Black Friday?

Last year, during the long Black Friday sales, we also saw the launch of the PS5 Slim. As we’ve mentioned, Sony quickly the mid-gen refresh with Spider-Man 2 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. That was the most popular deal of Black Friday, and a good indicator that it can be worth waiting on a decent console deal.

It’s also worth keeping in mind the PS5 Pro could be getting more of the spotlight come Black Friday (possibly a new bundle offer), or could usher in more price drops for every other PS5 now it’s available regularly. For now, the answer is go with your gut. If $50 off the PS5 Slim seems like a good deal for you, it’s still a pretty rare sight and well worth taking advantage of while you can.
