Orlando Bloom says he would happily return to Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum. There's just one problem: elves don't age.
"I don’t know how they’d do it," Bloom admitted in an interview with Variety. "I guess with AI you can do anything these days."
Even if he has to resort to AI to hide signs of aging, though, Bloom is still game to return to Hunt for Gollum, saying that if producer Peter Jackson told him to jump he would say "how high?"
"I mean, he started my whole career," Bloom said.
Bloom isn't the only Lord of the Rings alum open to returning to Tolkien's universe. Ian McKellan said that his character, Gandalf, will potentially feature in future films, and that Warner Bros. hopes that he will play the iconic wizard.
"When? I don’t know. What the script is? It’s not written yet. So they better be quick," McKellan said. Viggo Mortensen is also open to returning as Aragorn.
As for Bloom, he says that he really doesn't know what director Andy Serkis has planned for the new film. "I did speak to Andy [Serkis] and he did say they were thinking about how to do things. I was like, ‘How would that even work?’ And he was like, ‘Well, AI!’ and I was like, ‘Oh, OK!’ It was a pretty magical time in my life, and it’s one of those things where there’s not a downside to it.”
Hunter for Gollum as announced back in May, with Serkis confirmed to be the director and Jackson serving as the producer. Co-writers Fran Walsh and Phillippa Boyens will also be on hand to produce the new film. It will be the first of two new Lord of the Rings feature films, and will likely be set sometime between The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings.
Little else is known about the upcoming film. In the meantime, The Rings of Power is currently airing on Prime Video, and will continue into October. You can read our review of Season 1 right here.
