Nintendo Switch Gets Official Joy-Con Charging Stand Over 7 Years After Launch

Nintendo has announced an official Joy-Con charging stand for the Nintendo Switch, which arrives seven-and-a half years after the console launched.

The Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way) was announced on X/Twitter, below, and lets you charge two Joy-Cons at the same time without the need to attach them to the Switch itself.

Nintendo said the charging stand is recommended for those want to charge Joy-Cons that are not in use when you're playing in portable mode.

The charger is available October 17, 2024, and is also compatible with the Switch's Nintendo Entertainment System controllers. It works by attaching Joy-Cons to either side like the grip accessory without the, well, grip, with a USB-C cable plugging into the top to charge the controllers.

"Charge your Nintendo Switch Joy-Con controllers and Nintendo Entertainment System controllers with the Joy-Con Charging Stand (Two-Way) accessory, available October 17," Nintendo said. No price was announced.

The reveal comes a few days after the Switch became the longest running Nintendo home console without being replaced. The NES held the previous record at 2,868 days, while the Switch has now been available for 2,694.

That record will grow, of course, as the Switch successor is still a while away. This is evidenced by the myriad titles coming to Switch in the next year, including The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Super Mario Party Jamboree, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and more.

Nintendo could announce some of these as dual Switch and, for lack of an official name, Switch 2 titles, of course, just as it did with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the current console and Wii U, but it has already indicated the next generation hardware won't arrive until April 2025 at the earliest.
