Nintendo has announced a Direct for its museum due to open in Japan later in 2024.

The Nintendo Museum Direct livestream is set for 3pm PT today, August 19, and will offer a 10-minute tour of the Nintendo Museum scheduled to open in Kyoto, Japan, this fall.

In a tweet, Nintendo managed fan expectations by clarifying that the livestream will not include any game announcements, “or mention of the Nintendo Switch successor.”

Anticipation for the next Nintendo console, dubbed Switch 2 by the community, is high as the original Switch nears its eighth birthday. Nintendo itself has indicated Switch 2 will not come out until April 2025 at the earliest. Nintendo will announce the console during this financial year, which ends March 31, 2025.

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has also confirmed that the Switch 2 will continue to use the Nintendo Account system already in place for the Switch and Nintendo’s mobile games.

Recent alleged details on the power of the Switch 2 weren't the first rumors to spread about Nintendo’s new console. Other allegedly leaked details have suggested that the device will feature magnetic versions of the Joy-Cons and maybe even let players use their old controllers, too. If these recent rumors are to be believed, you’ll also be able to enjoy your physical and digital games on the Switch 2.

As for the Nintendo Museum, it’s expected to contain a treasure trove of Nintendo memorabilia from the company’s vast collection of hardware and software. We’ll know more later today.
