With the releases of recent horror hits like M3GAN and the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie (and its own video game division), the past few years have been full of growth for film and TV production company Blumhouse. Now, along with Atomic Monster, the studio has another movie on its way, and it’s set in the M3GAN universe.
Today, Universal announced that Soulm8te, an “erotic thriller” spinoff of M3GAN, is in the works at Blumhouse and Atomic Monster. It’s set to be released on January 2, 2026.
According to Variety, Soulm8te focuses on a man who tries to cope with the loss of his wife using an AI android. “In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate.”
Soulm8te is directed by Kate Dolan, who described the movie as “an exploration of relationships and loneliness” in a statement cited by Variety. “Despite technological advances, there are enduring human truths we cannot escape, and I am looking forward to delving into those depths.”
Also on board are producers James Wan and Jason Blum, with Michael Clear and Judson Scott executive producing the film.
We gave the original M3GAN a 7 in our review, saying it “lives up to its memeable pre-release hype for mostly better and sporadically worse.” M3GAN is also slated to receive a direct sequel next June after facing a delay earlier this year.
