Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR Anime Recruits Terminator Zero Showrunner, Production to Start This Fall | SDCC 2024

The anime adaptation of Keanu Reeves’ BRZRKR comic series is finally starting production, three years after its announcement. And the screenwriter of Terminator Zero, Mattson Tomlin, will serve as showrunner.

At San Diego Comic-Con today, Tomlin made an appearance alongside Reeves at a panel dedicated to BRZRKR where they chatted about the upcoming live action movie, which Tomlin is also screenwriting. In fact, Tomlin says he’s just turned in a draft of the script.

Then, they turned to the animated series, with Tomlin saying he’s currently assembling a team and intends to start work this fall.

The group onstage was then asked for more information about the animated series, to which Boom! Studios president Stephen Christy replied:

“We all have a very special place in our hearts for the Animatrix,” he said. “So when we were lucky enough to get an opportunity to collaborate with Netflix on the movie, we just don’t just want to present a movie. We would like to do an adult anime. To have Mattson [Tomlin], who is doing the Terminator as he mentioned…I think we’re oging to have a chance to go to some of the worlds that you see in the comics, the specials…and hopefully it’ll pay tribute to the anime that we love as fans.”

BRZRKR is a comic series written by Keanu Reeves and Matt Kindt, illustrated by Rob Garney and Bill Crabtree, and distributed by Boom! Studios. It follows an immortal warrior known as B fighting his way through time in an effort to end his immortal life. A live-action film and an animated series were announced back in 2021 for Netflix, with Reeves playing the titular role in both. The anime is expected to run for two seasons.
