The Jeff Goldblum-led comedy series Kaos has been cancelled by Netflix after just one season.
The news first broke via a now-deleted Instagram post from star Aurora Perrineau, and Variety has since confirmed the cancellation. Netflix is yet to give any word on the series’ cancellation itself.
Kaos is a modern retelling of Greek mythology in which Goldblum played a power-abusing and paranoid Zeus living in the 21st century. Despite being the show’s biggest name, Goldblum’s character was mostly shifted to the background of Kaos as it instead focused on the myriad other characters looking to usurp him.
Perrineau, who played Eurydice in the show, said she was struggling to express how hurt she was by the show’s cancellation. “Well… this one hurts,” she said in the Instagram post. “I find explaining how I’m feeling to be really difficult, but I’ll try.”
She added: “Everyone was brilliant and uniquely themselves. Every performance surprised and excited me. I can’t believe I got to do this with all of you. We made something weird, dark, hilarious, deranged and absolutely tragic — something entirely human. This is a feeling I plan to take with me. Thanks for letting me be your Riddy. I had the time of my life.”
The show was met with a lukewarm reception from critics. “Kaos repackages Greek mythology with some progressive quirks and a few reliable performances, but it struggles to sew the weighty threads of competing legends into a compelling journey,” IGN said in our 6/10 review.
