Just over a week after it became the highest-grossing animated film of all time, Inside Out 2 has now officially surpassed The Avengers to reach another big milestone.
Today, Inside Out 2 officially became the 10th highest grossing movie of all time, passing The Avengers’ $1.521 billion at the box office with its own $1.523.9 billion as of Wednesday, according to Deadline. It also surpassed Furious 7’s $1.515 billion.
The Pixar powerhouse film is likely to have an impressively long 100-day theatrical run (and just released in Japan today), meaning it still has time to continue its climb.
Before it became the highest-grossing animated film and surpassed The Avengers, Inside Out 2 was instantly off to a massive start, having the second biggest domestic weekend box office opening for an animated film and becoming the fastest animated movie (and the first movie of 2024) to cross the $1 billion mark.
Pixar has also thanked fans for the movie’s success, most recently by celebrating its new title as the highest-grossing animated film of all time with new art and a message from the movie’s director and producer.
First announced in 2022, Inside Out 2 premiered on June 14 and introduces quite a few new emotions to teenage Riley’s mind. We gave it a 7 in our review, calling it “a smart but emotionally stunted sequel.”
