We now know the name of FX's upcoming Alien series, and it alludes to the prequel's more…. grounded setting.
FX boss John Landgraf and the series' showrunner, Noah Hawley, revealed in an interview with Variety today that it'll be titled Alien: Earth. Landgraf also said that he's "bullish" on Alien: Earth and, if successful, he'd want Hawley to "focus on at least writing two seasons of it before returning to a possible sixth season of Fargo."
Hawley, meanwhile, revealed that the first season just wrapped production, and they're now moving on to visual effects.
“It’s a very big show. It’s nice to have some time with it,” he told Variety. “The first year of anything, you want to feel like you’re not up against the wall in terms of time. I’ve seen four of the eight hours of director cuts and engaged in the process of figuring out, cinematically, what it wants to be. It’s one of my favorite parts of of making a show.”
It's the first solid update we've gotten on the Alien TV series in quite some time. The show was first announced all the way back in 2020, and we've slowly learned more and more about it since then. We already knew, as the show's new title suggests, that it'll be set on Earth, and that it will take place a few years before Prometheus (2093) and around 30 years before Ridley Scott’s 1979 sci-fi horror Alien.
It's also been filling out its cast, including Sydney Chandler, Timothy Olyphant, Samuel Blenkin, Essie Davis, Adarsh Gourav, and more.
We still don't have a release date, but Hawley's update is an encouraging one. In the meantime, Alien: Romulus, the latest in the series on the big screen, will debut on August 16, and reveal more at its San Diego Comic-Con panel next week.
