This Day in Gaming 🎂

In retro news, I’m letting my Rapidash unleash Flare Blitz on 21 birthday candles for Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. Hard to believe two decades have passed since I first slotted this Gen III remake of Red and Blue into my GBA and went on a spree of catching unsuspecting Kanto critters for, let’s be honest, glorified cockfighting. My standout memories come from the Sevii Islands, where Double Battles awaited and legendaries like Lugia and Ho-Oh turned the heat up even further. Glorious times.

Nice Savings for Nintendo Switch

On Switch, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom proves Nintendo can still redefine open-world adventures. I spent hours building contraptions that probably breached OH&S, but the physics engine never blinked. Meanwhile, Pikmin 4 deserves more love than it gets. It began as a side project in Shigeru Miyamoto’s notebook years ago, and its quirky ecosystem of tiny gardeners never stopped charming me.

Over on Xbox Series X, Resident Evil 4 shows Capcom’s mastery at reinventing classics. The village fight remains one of gaming’s greatest opening acts, even when replayed decades later.
