Analogue Pocket’s New Aluminum Covers Are Both Beautiful and Expensive

Analogue Pocket, the sleek, popular gaming handheld that plays Game Boy cartridges, is getting a new limited-edition model — this time with an aluminum body.

In a press release, Analogue revealed that the Pocket Aluminum Editions are “precision CNC’d entirely in aluminum.” Thanks to its aluminum material, the Analogue Pocket Aluminum Edition is both durable and lightweight. In contrast, the original Analogue Pocket is made with high-quality plastic.

The Analouge Pocket Aluminum Edition comes in four colors: Indigo, Natural (silver), Noir (dark grey), and Black. As beautiful as the image gallery below shows, this limited-edition model does not come cheap, setting back the customer $499.99 if they decide to bite the bullet and buy this particular model instead of $219.99 for the standard version that comes in plastic with black or white as your color options. Pre-orders for Analouge Pocket Aluminum Edition start at 8am PT / 11am ET on July 15.

This is not the first time Analogue has made beautiful new limited-edition models of its contemporary Game Boy. In 2023, Analogue released multiple and quite colorful limited-edition models. Last August, it released a “highly limited” Pocket handheld that glows in the dark. In September, it had a limited release of 7 color variants in a transparent shell; in November, it released eight new colors reminiscent of the color variants available for the Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance.

The Analogue Pocket was released in late 2021 and has become a popular handheld for those looking to dust off their Game Boy cartridges. Beyond just supporting Game Boy, GBC, and GBA games, the device has demonstrated versatility, providing the ability to play Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, and Atari Lynx games. It can also use Game Boy accessories, such as the Game Boy Camera.

“The Analogue Pocket solves the limitations of classic handhelds with a familiar but distinct style you don’t find with emulation-based solutions. Simply put, it’s the best possible way to enjoy your handheld gaming collection,” my colleague Seth Macy wrote in his review of the Analogue Pocket.
