The first trailer for Robert Eggers' Nosferatu is here, offering a preview of the gothic horror remake and the terrors it will unleash.
The terrifying teaser builds anticipation for the release of Nosferatu and the arrival of Bill Skarsgård's Count Orlok, whose haunting presence looms over the footage. The rest of the characters sense that "he is coming" and cannot seem to escape the dark dreams, evil entities, and riotous rats that torment them.
Nosferatu — which was announced in 2015 and will be the third Nosferatu film in existence after the original 1922 silent vampire film by F. W. Murnau and the 1979 remake by Werner Herzog — will arrive in US theaters on December 25 (Christmas Day). However, the trailer promises a story that's more macabre than merry.
Those in the UK can get acquainted with Nosferatu on the big screen from January 3 when Focus Features invites audiences to watch the gothic tale that tells a sinister story of "obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake."
The horror remake stars Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Emma Corrin, Simon McBurney, and Ralph Ineson. Willem Dafoe also appears in the film, having already played a vampiric version of actor Max Schreck (who starred as Orlok in 1922) in the fictionalized making-of-Nosferatu film Shadow of the Vampire.
IGN previously named Count Orlok one of the most influential monsters in film history, calling Schrek's performance "eerie and iconic."
