Marvel has made Black Panther 3 official, and confirmed it will launch on December 15, 2028.
Details of Ryan Coogler’s upcoming threequel were confirmed today at San Diego Comic Con during Marvel’s announcement panel in Hall H, where IGN was in attendance.
Notably, British actor David Jonsson was announced as starring in the film as the son of T’Challa, previously seen as a child in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Jonsson previously appeared in Alien: Romulus and The Long Walk.
Letitia Wright will return as Shuri, while Winston Duke will reprise his role as M’Baku. So both of them presumably survive Avengers: Secret Wars, then.
For a movie that Marvel had previously not officially confirmed, we actually did know a fair bit about the project before today. Coogler had made no secret of the fact that Denzel Washington is involved after revealing he had written a part specifically for him (and this was back in 2024!). Following this revelation, Kevin Feige then admitted that Black Panther 3 was being planned.
“Denzel is family at this point,” Coogler said previously. “I’ve been trying to work with him since day one. I think he’s the greatest living actor. In terms of what he means to our culture? Forget about it, man.”
A third entry in the hit MCU Black Panther series had always seemed assured after the first entry hit $1.35 billion and its follow-up Wakanda Forever, which was retooled after the tragic death of original Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, earned another $859 million.
