Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla is one of several major comic book crossovers hitting the stands in 2026. Can the Blue Blur and his friends possibly stand up to the mightiest kaiju of them all? We have an answer, because the first issue is in stores now. To celebrate, IGN has an exclusive preview of issue #2 and new commentary from writer Nick Marino.

Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #2 is written by Marino, with art by Jack Lawrence, colors by Reggie Graham, and letters by Ed Dukeshire. Here’s the official description for issue #2:
The BIGGEST crossover of the year continues!Mothra and Mechagodzilla did their best to turn Station Square into a parking lot, with Sonic, Amy, and Tails, teaming up to halt the kaiju onslaught. And now, as a treat, Team Sonic is on a breezy one-way flight to Angel Island. How delightful! I hear the weather there is simply wonderful this ti-Cease you prattling, solicit! I’ll tell them what’s REALLY happening here. From the files of me, Dr. Eggman! I tracked the mechanical monster to a crash site in the woods. My loyal Badniks will join me momentarily to analyze the extra-dimensional marvel. I should have plenty of time prod and probe the metallic beast considering Sonic and his irritating allies are currently on a collision course with the home of that detestable echidna, Knuckles. Hopefully they’ll make me the happiest mad scientist in the world by smashing each other to smithereens!
“If you’ve already held a copy of Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #1 in your hands today, then you know just how much action and excitement we’ve poured into it,” Marino tells IGN. “We always had a hunch you’d be stoked to get ahold of it, but your tremendous enthusiasm and support has totally blown us away. Thank you for sharing this fun SxG journey with us so far, we’re just getting started!”
Marino continues, “You may notice a certain King is only on the cover of SxG #1, but don’t fret. Everyone will show up soon enough. We’ve fine tuned this adventure to maximize the best that all of our amazing characters have to offer, so please be patient as the thrills unfold. Savor it all like a fine chili dog combo meal.”
As for what to expect in issue #2, Marino teases, “Oh baby, things are about to get weird! We’re stopping by one of my fave spots, Angel Island, and then it’s back to Station Square where Amy Rose is pushed to her absolute limits. Of course, Eggman won’t be showing up empty handed! Just wait until you get a load of his kaiju schemes and dreams.”
Marino adds, “If you’re headed to San Diego next week for Comic-Con International, make sure you check the schedule to see when I’ll be signing Sonic x Godzilla at the IDW booth [#2729] with cover artist Natalie Haines. We’d love to say hi and find out what you think of our crossover so far. Hope to see you there!”
Sonic the Hedgehog x Godzilla #1 is in stores now. Issue #2 will be released on September 2, with a final order cutoff of July 27. You can preorder a copy at your local comic shop.
