Marvel's Wolverine Lets You Turn Off the Gore, Censoring All the Blood

Marvel’s Wolverine in a violent game — this is something developer Insomniac set out to build from the very start. The X-Men legend uses his adamantium claws to stab and dismember his opponents in rage-fueled melee combat, showering them and himself in blood. We see Wolverine suffer detailed body damage, his flesh tearing to expose his adamantium-laced skeleton. This is a game not for the faint of heart. But, if you don’t like the look of all that gore, you can turn it off.

In an interview with IGN ahead of Wolverine’s appearance at Sony’s State of Play showcase, game director Mike Daly confirmed that there is a “nuanced” accessibility feature that lets you censor the gore.

"We know that it's not for everyone," Daly said of Wolverine’s extreme violence. "And because we knew this was going to be a big part of the game from the beginning, we also implemented an accessibility feature to turn off gore. It's clearly integrated into the game in a lot of different ways, and so it's a nuanced feature that is very selective about what we show, what we censor, turning off blood and things like that, just in order to make it more palatable to people who don't really want to have that part of the experience."

So, if you want to tone down the violence in Marvel’s Wolverine, you can. Be sure to check out our interview with Insomniac in full to get a sense of how Marvel’s Wolverine actually plays.
