Rick and Morty is returning for its ninth season this Sunday. We got the chance to check out the new season ahead of time, and it seems there may in fact still be some juice left in the tank. IGN’s own Jesse Schedeen claims Season 9 has “real legs out of the gate, and several episodes easily rank among the series’ best.”
Like previous seasons, the new season of Rick and Morty will air on Adult Swim before becoming available to stream on HBO Max. Whether you’re planning to catch new episodes live or online, here’s when you’ll be able to tune in.
Rick and Morty Season 9 Episode Release Schedule
The new season of Rick and Morty will premiere exclusively on Adult Swim on Sunday, May 24, at 11pm EST. One new episode will continue to be released each week at that same time for a total of 10 episodes.
Here’s a quick look at the full release schedule with episode titles that have been confirmed so far:
Episode 1: “There’s Something About Morty” – May 24Episode 2: “Ricks Days, Seven Nights” – May 31Episode 3: “Rick Fu Hustle” – June 7Episode 4: “A Ricker Runs Through It” – June 14Episode 5: “Jer Bud” – June 21Episode 6: “Erickerhead” – June 28Episode 7: “Mortgully: The Last Rickforest” – July 5Episode 8: “Rickuiem for a Dream” – July 12Episode 9: “Salute Your Morts” – July 19Episode 10: “Field of Dreams” – July 26
Unlike the usual trend of next-day streaming releases, Rick and Morty won’t be available to stream online until after the full season has aired on Adult Swim.
During Season 8, fans had to wait a full three months for the season to appear on HBO Max. This time around, however, Adult Swim has already confirmed that episodes of Season 9 will become available to stream on both HBO Max and Hulu (in the U.S.) on June 15. New episodes will likely arrive on the streaming service in batches through the end of the season.
If you want to watch the new episodes online before then, you’ll need a live TV streaming service that includes access to Adult Swim.
From IGN’s full review of Season 9:
“It’s no easy task to keep any series fresh and exciting after nine seasons, but Rick and Morty pulls it off. If anything, Season 9 is an improvement over the relatively weaker Season 8. Certainly, not every episode is a banger, but there are several here that rank among the show’s best. The series continues to merge high-concept sci-fi with wacky comedy. It still finds novel ways of exploring how Rick Sanchez is his own worst enemy and how toxic the Smith family dynamic can be. With at least three more seasons left to go, the series still has plenty to offer fans.”
How Many More Seasons Are There?
Rick and Morty was renewed for a whopping 70 episodes all the way back in 2018, soon after the show’s third season. The series got yet another renewal in 2024, bringing the current total to 12 seasons.
After Season 9, then, there’s at least 30 more episodes left to go. I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about those future plans when voice actors Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden make an appearance at IGN Live in early June.
