The Resurrected Captain Kirk Takes Command in Star Trek: The Last Starship #3

Star Trek: The Last Starship is easily one of the most exciting Trek projects to come along in recent memory, as it reveals what happens when Captain James T. Kirk is resurrected in the 31st Century. Issue #3 of the new series will showcase the first time Kirk takes command of the USS Omega, as Starfleet's last surviving ship wages a deadly war against the Klingons.

IGN can exclusively reveal a new preview of Star Trek: The Last Starship #3. Check it out in the slideshow gallery below:

The Last Starship is written by Kelly and Lanzing and illustrated by Adrián Bonilla, with colors by Heather Moore. Here's IDW's official logline for issue #3:

The U.S.S. Omega launches into battle! Its adversary? A chaotic Klingon cult whose bloodred path is focused purely on obliterating the remaining vestiges of Starfleet. What's left of the Federation is falling apart by the moment. Captain Sato, who once dreamed of uniting the galaxy, is now living his worst nightmare. He was raised in a time of peace… but no progress comes without a fight. While the Klingons might be his enemies after centuries of peace, he has Kirk as his ally… and no one knows how to defeat a Klingon better than the Federation's greatest hero.

“Kirk is going through a journey of self-discovery,” editor Heather Antos told IGN. “Like Captain Sato and the rest of the members of the Omega crew, this era of the Federation post-Burn is going to challenge not only their ideals as members of Starfleet, but who they are to their very core. Who is James T. Kirk without the solidity of the Federation as he knows and loves? We’re about to find out.”

Star Trek: The Last Starship #3 will be released on December 17, 2025. You can preorder a copy at your local comic shop. And be sure to check back once the new issue releases for a full-spoiler interview breaking down the big developments.

In other Trek news, Paramount reportedly wants a fresh reboot of the movie franchise.
