Few comic strips can rival the longevity and influence of Chester Gould’s Dick Tracy. Clover Press is seeking to do justice to that legacy by releasing a new series of hardcovers that reprint the early years of the Dick Tracy strip.
With Clover Press’ Dick Tracy crowdfunding campaign now live, IGN can exclusively debut cover art and some of the lithograph art prints featured in the campaign. Check them out in the slideshow gallery below:
The crowdfunding campaign includes four deluxe hardcovers, collecting the entirety of the years 1941-1944. The hardcovers feature new artwork by Jerry Ordway, Stewart Kenneth Moore, J.K. Snyder III, and Juan Jose Ryp, along with slipcase artwork by Moore and David Mack. Each hardcover measures 11″ x 8.5″.
Backers will receive all four hardcovers at once. The campaign includes various optional extras like stickers, a lithograph of Gould’s Life Magazine artwork, and a “Dick Tracy Case Files” trading card set. Additionally, those who pledge within the first 48 hours will receive an exclusive bookmark with art by Mack.
“Blending outlandish characters and humor with hard-boiled noir crime, Dick Tracy has delighted fans for years,” said Clover Press Publisher Hank Kanalz in a statement. “Creator Chester Gould wrote and drew the daily strip until 1977, crafting the world of Dick Tracy and creating many iconic supporting characters like Mumbles, The Mole, Flattop, and Tess Trueheart that make Tracy the beloved character he is today. The new Clover Press editions collect the seminal strips that originally ran from 1941 to 1944.”
