The Fantastic Four’s Joseph Quinn Has Practiced Johnny Storm’s Catchphrase a Lot

The iconic catchphrase “Flame on” is perhaps one of the most famous Marvel lines, and The Fantastic Four’s Johnny Storm actor Joseph Quinn has practiced it a lot.

“Flame on” is the line Storm uses before his entire body is engulfed in fire and he turns into The Human Torch, and Quinn is seemingly feeling the heat to get it right ahead of filming for 2025’s film, which will see the Fantastic Four finally join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, Quinn said he’s spent an hour working on the line. And not, like, an hour while doing other things. “One hour, probably, collectively,” Quinn said.

Given the line takes barely a second to say, Quinn is implying he’s practiced saying “Flame on” about 3,600 times. That’s a lot.

His practice will finally be put to good use on July 29, 2024 when filming for The Fantastic Four begins. Unlike its other two film franchises, however, and most of the MCU, the film isn’t set in modern day but is instead a 1960s period piece. It’s probably not even set in the main MCU timeline.

Alongside Quinn as The Human Torch stands Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing. It also stars John Malkovich, Ralph Ineson, Paul Walter Hauser, and Natasha Lyonne in supporting roles, all of whom can be seen when it premieres July 25, 2025.
