Jim Carrey has revealed his hilarious and relatable reason for returning as Doctor Eggman in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, saying he bought a load of stuff and simply needs the money.
The beloved comedy actor was asked by The Associated Press why he returned for the third film after sharing previously he may be finished with acting.
"I came back to this universe because, first of all, I get to play a genius, which is a bit of a stretch," Carrey said. "And, you know, it’s just… I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly."

The 62-year-old actor said in April 2022, upon the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, that he was "fairly serious" about retiring. "If the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break."
Sonic 3 may or may not be that film, but Carrey laughed that his previous comment "might have been hyperbole."
Carrey is just one of several big names attached to the film. The live action Sonic franchise already stars Ben Schwartz in the titular role alongside Idris Elba as Knuckles, but Sonic 3 adds Keanu Reeves as Shadow the Hedgehog too.
Paramount Pictures seemingly has no plans to slow down either, already teasing that this film, which hits theatres on December 20, sets up another big character's appearance in its closing scenes.
